Today i hitched a ride with some Italian paediatricians who were on their way to Butterfly Hill, a new Care and Share orphanage (functioning but still in construction) half an hour away by car. The doctors give a general well being check up to the kids. I met some deaf kids there and we spoke, by me writing down questions in english, but they could also lip read English, Telugu and Hindi.
Animals seen on the way: a mongoose, stripy squirrels, monkeys and a scorpion as big as my hand, buffalo and pigs.
NOT REALLY SURE WHY AM KEEPING THIS BLOG, OTHER THAN FOR OBVIOUS PURPOSES OF RECORDING LIFE, BUT WILL KEEP ON DOCUMENTING TILL I CAN THINK OF A REASON NOT TO…
Globalisation, this really is a far off corner of the world, but i have had children singing me songs (word perfect) from “mamma mia” and yesterday during a performance for visitors, i watched boys dance a routine to what i believe was the backstreet boys. More surreal, this morning i had to pick my way through a squad of 4-6 year olds (my neighbours in luisiana home – the house i stay in) merrily formation dancing to the Cuban classic “guantanamera“. What does it mean? is it a good thing? does it matter that even these little girls have crushes on the Jonas brothers?
Met Sarita, the headmistress of the school where i will give workshops. She introduced me to the kids who are keen to do more art. Think i am going to do a photography class with them as they can already draw etc, also might do some basic stop motion animation projects and am very keen to teach them how to weave using a simple wooden frame hand loom…not all at the same time. Am also giving photoshop lessons…on a PC….which scares me a little (the PC part, not the photoshop…)
