children’s day

Back tracking a bit to last weekend,  the 14th Nov was children’s day. India’s first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, loved children and after his death in 1963, his birthday has been celebrated as Children’s Day in India. So no classes and at school, the staff performed for the children. There was singing, bollywood style dancing, sketches, speeches…When some male teachers sang, there ensued Beatles style hysteria complete with girls screaming and clutching their hair. There was a monty pythonesque sketch where the teachers played students (very funny for a few minutes)  which lasted more than half an hour… and there were sardar jokes. Every country has its own particular section of society to make fun of, here it is the sardar (turban wearing Sikh) with jokes being made to show how stupid they are…
