new website…

My requested portraits now have a new space all to themselves. For those who don’t know, the project is based on a series of portraits taken during my stay in Andhra Pradesh in oct/nov 2009. They were all taken at the specific request of the subjects themselves who all loved to be photographed. Pride, self confidence  and the resulting  connection with the camera results in a very strong connection between lens and subject, see for yourselves, to get there click on the photo below.

Many, many thanks to astandred to for setting up the site and giving good advice….

twinning…

… i got to thinking about some crazy/extreme religious types i have “experienced” in the last few weeks, and i decided decided to twin this pair of local “characters”, they have a lot in common…

separated at birth…by some water and some very big mountains:

He stands outside a small church near the duomo in the centre of milan (have mentioned him before) and he is not a communist because he is a “believer”, his only mission seems to be seen as he does not generally ask for anything…

His spiritual cousin instead has a beat in the heart of Edinburgh and can regularly be seen parading up and down Princes St of a weekend…(actually i think there is also another older chap who does the same thing, but is especially keen on extolling the dangers on non marital sex) have been wanting to film him for years, still have not managed it.

light on water…

Light bouncing off the firth of forth as the plane comes into land in Edinburgh…

sweet smell of jasmine…

Job, done, workshop over (see previous post or 3). Think i slept about 12 hours in the last 6 days, (today i pretty much fell asleep at the table at lunch)…Now back to milan for some much needed sleep and some extremely trivial pursuits. The city is currently heady with the sweet smell of jasmine and pittosporum, especially at night. After the (über) documentation of the last week i could not muster the energy to take any exciting photos…can you tell i’m tired???

pittosporum

a wall of jasmine…human catnip!

the awkward position of the film maker…

a brief moment of calm

It’s a strange position to be in, this non stop process of filming and editing, you see and experience everything in a different way, at least one remove from reality. For example during the workshop there was an intervention on the techniques of meditation…I can see that most people were benefiting from this, but for me , moving about, filming, it just seemed a little…strange, in fact am not going to post any pictures as its not fair on the participants as this feels like a very private moment…but its hard to do this kind of work sometimes, a little voyeuristic maybe.

on a lighter note, we have focus groups at 2 points in the day, to try to synthesise the discussion so far, here was one of them:
