stopmotion alps

Stopmotion alps with landing into Edinburgh, playing cat and mouse with the air stewards as i am supposed at this point to have turned off all my electronic equipment…It’s a camera for gods sake, what is the problem?!!!!

Not the greatest visibility today, the mountains were playing hide and seek with the clouds, with only the highest peaks visible…

mountains and sunshine…

One thing that’s good about the winter in Biella is that even though it’s bloomin’ freezing, the sun does SHINE! Not so much the case in invernal Edinburgh…

…and the other good thing is the mountains that are present at every turn…

…another great thing is when a door that is usually close is suddenly left open and you get a wee glimpse of what lies inside…

relief in the mountains…

…in the end, i only spent one day in Pettinengo, the association we were visiting  (see previous post)  has a huge and abundant produce garden,

but the bees were my favourite…they produce “third paradise honey” here named after an artwork made from flowers by Michelangelo Pistoletto…But i had a bit of a hard time here as i previously mentioned with the mosquitoes,  so i escaped to the mountains and temps in the mid 30’s dropped to a marvellous 18 degrees…

About 2000 metres up, near Monte Cervino (4800m) in Valle d’Aosta, i was amazed once i got into the meadows on the slopes not of the abundance but of the exotic nature of the flora and fauna i found up there, my ignorance i guess…

You are really inside the weather here, Monte Cervino (the peak on the right) was constantly appearing and disappearing behind clouds, it would rain for 10 seconds and then become sunny etc…

Right now i have no time to find out what everything i saw actually is, but i found lilies growing singly all over the place and also brightly coloured succulents….

With all the flowers came brilliant coloured butterflies and a vivid fushia coloured flying insect that was impossible to photograph.

Just a little further up in the ski town of Cervina (an incredible mix of low rent Vegas and plastic Hansel and Gretel style architecture….!!), people were skiing…i hope to come back and do some walks in the mountains and maybe find out a bit more about the plants and animals and best of all be in a place where there are no mosquitoes!!!

Not Cervina, but up in the mountains, indigenous architecture being reclaimed and absorbed again by nature…

Indigenous architecture still in use by shepherds…

inter…

…just managed to sneak over the Alps again before they closed Edinburgh airport…again.

This time managed to get food poisoning…again…thanks Edinburgh airport and a so called heathy EATing establishment…Suffice it to say that by the time i got to Cadorna station in Milan, i had re-enacted several key scenes from the Exorcist…whilst maintaining full control of my luggage… but i digress…

…so i know sod all about football really, but i do know that round these parts you call them “inter” and definitely NOT  “inter milan”. Anyway, they just won the main championship league thingie in Italy, and Milan has gone a wee bit MENTAL!! It looks a lot like this:

Too bad there is no audio to describe the cacophony of celebratory car horns that go on for hours and into the night…

travel update…

…i interrupt this series of archival salone posts to celebrate the fact that i finally made it onto my plane…and we were not alone up there…

Crazy cloud formations towards the end of the alps…incidentally, i posted this photo on my Blipfoto account and this was one of the comments i got:

In shipping we call this ‘a near miss’ regardless if you use the zoom function. The relative speed should have been in the +1600 km/hr region when he was heading into opposite direction. A remarkably shot. Can’t imagine NCA will be proud.  ~ GERT

I was too busy fumbling with my camera to worry about stuff like that…but i did think it was a bit close!

I did not tamper with the colour here, the sky was crazy blue…and no ash in sight.

Chasing the moon, which was odd as it was 2.20 in the afternoon.

Winding road and cloud shadows, am always looking for signs of life from the plane…still looking.
