…nobody comes to Edinburgh for the weather, this much we know, but on this freezing, wet and windy August evening (with a massive arts festival going on all around INDOORS) you have to admire the plucky resolve of the few who braved an outdoor screening of Amelie in the old college quad at Edinburgh Uni. I for one salute them…

hippodrome…

Three cheers for the truly wonderful Hippodrome in Bo’ness. Scotland’s oldest purpose built cinema (1912)…For more on the building and its revival see here.

Was here for a silent film festival and a performance by the rather marvellous Neil Brand a pianist for silent films. Did you know that originally it was not just one or two musicians accompanying a film, but whole orchestras of anything from 10 to 60 (!!!) musicians semi improvising together…Amazing stuff
